Welcome to our web site and to our home in California!
We moved into the house a 2324 Park Ave. in August 2007
Our MissionIt is interesting to see the photos and photo albums of our families. These photos capture special events and the every-day lives of our past and those who came before us. These snapshots of the past are readily interpreted by those who were there or are in the know. Even then the people and places may be familiar but the details are clouded. As time goes on the photos and photo albums are pasted on to the next generation. Not only is access limited but the quality of some photos degrade. By scanning the photos into a digital file, these files and be stored and restored electronically. These files can be retrieved and written to a CD disc and given to the entire next generation. Our mission is to electronically digitize, store, and retrieve these photos with the attributes of the photo i.e., names of persons, the location, occasion and date.
The ProcessWe have scanned photos from our families, linked them in a Microsoft Access file and attempted to describe the photo. For each photo we record: the person or persons, the location, the occasion, and the date. Only a 3 character code is placed on the photo record. The 3 character code is formed by the person's name, when possible. Since each 3 character code must be unique as required by database functions, a person's initials may be modified. In a query these 3 character codes are matched with another table that contains information about the person. The database records the following information: birth name: first, middle and last; common name: first and last; dates: birth, marriage and death; father's first name and notes were placed in this database. My Aunt Joan White collected and complied this information for the Suel and Sweeney families. The MS Access database (not connected to this web site) links this information for each photos. Please peruse the database and verify the information about persons you know. If you have corrections or new information send it to the e-mail address below.
The sourcesThe vast majority of the Kearney family photos were in Mary Pat Kearney's photo albums and concomitantly most of the photos taken after 1945 were taken by her. Alice Kearney, Eleanor McCoy and Dolores Kearney made significant contributions to early Kearney family. My mother and aunts, Jo White, Helen White, Betty Schweich and Rosemarie Lubansky provided the Suel family photos. Rita Gruber, Dorothy Zine, Tom Sweeney and Jo White were source of the Sweeney Family photos. We selected the older albums first and we have the photo albums of my mother up to the early 80's. We tried to find one photo per person per year, but too often we were short of photos. If you have a photo or a better photo, please send it to me as a jpg file. If you prefer to mail it to me I will scan it and return it to you. Many of the older photos for the Suel and Sweeney families came from my aunt Joan White who has collected and filed photos and articles on family members for years.
